Song of Solomon 5
8I adjure you, O daughters of Jerusalem,
if you find my beloved,
that you tell him
I am sick with love.

9What is your beloved more than another beloved,
O most beautiful among women?
What is your beloved more than another beloved,
that you thus adjure us?
Song of Solomon has quickly become top three in my favorites in the Bible. This may not surprise you, if you know anything about the romantic nature of my heart, but take it in context with the prior post.
Song of Solomon is all about the love-journey of the Bride. It follows her from "Let Him kiss me with the kisses of His word... her initial infatuation and desire to be near the Bridegroom, through her understanding of her darkness, her surrender, the testing of her love, which produces real love in her heart, the wilderness, and finally, coming up leaning upon her Beloved.... from immature infatuation to real pure love... love as strong as death :) It's an amazing journey.
What I love the most is that at each step of the way, I can find the Bridegroom's words of love and affirmation for her. He tells the Bride several times "You capture my heart with each glance of your eye, there is no flaw in you". He praises her "doves eyes" (eyes fixed on Him, even though we know that our eyes are prone to wander.) What an amazing picture of Jesus' steadfast love for us and His pure delight in each movement of our heart toward Him!! He sees us through eternity's eyes and loves our drawing near to Him.
I can always find myself in the Song. Tonight I meditate on Song of Solomon 5.
In this passage, the Bride is in a season of wilderness, I guess you could say... She is searching for her Beloved and cannot find Him. She tells those she finds, "HAVE YOU SEEN HIM? If you do, tell Him I am LOVESICK!"
They answer her with a simple question: Who is this Man, that you seek Him even when He has left You??
I love it....... She doesn't doubt, doesn't waiver.....She simply says, well.... let me tell you... ha!
10My beloved is radiant and ruddy,
distinguished among ten thousand.
11His head is the finest gold;
She goes on for quite awhile, extolling His attributes.... but these two lines are some of my favorite right now....
He is radiant, He is above all the others. He is the greatest treasure.
His head being of finest gold speaks of the purity and richness of His leadership. I love that.
His leadership is best for my heart... it tells of her trust in Him to lead her...... The Beatitudes come to mind... Jesus says over and over "Happy are those who..." He knows what's best for my heart. He knows the right combination of north and south winds to produce fruit in the garden of my heart.... The Psalms say it another way... He is intimately acquainted with all my ways...
I want to expound more on this passage but for now, my heart is just captivated by this....the knowledge that He is above all the others and His leadership is perfect in my life.
This is my beloved and this is my friend,
O daughters of Jerusalem.
