Emmanuel.

This Christmas season I have really tried to set my heart to encounter the Incarnation in a new way. The kindness of the Lord to bring life to my heart just astounds me for more reasons than I can really go into on a blog. Suffice it to say that this period of revelation is like rain to a very very parched land.

But I have been meditating on the Incarnation almost incessantly for the past week at least. It just amazes me. I just want to share some of my favorite things with you all. I encourage You to FEAST on this!!! It is SO rich. And it will make you fall in Love with the Son of Man.

Ahh Emmanuel. His name, Jesus, means Salvation for me. Emmanuel-God with Us. God in human form. Fully God, fully man. He wasn't just acting. He wasn't pretending to be God. He didn't just appear to be human. He was.

I like how Allen Hood says it "He was fully God but He had Mary's cheekbones"

He had human DNA. He grew from two little tiny cells. He was knit together in His mother's womb.

God.

The Word that created the world.

John 1:1

In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning...

John 1:14

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. And we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

God became human. In His fullness.

Colossians 1

15He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. 16For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. 17And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
19 For in Him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell.

All the fullness of God... squeezed in to a human frame. Think about it.

GOD. That Eternal being that we cannot comprehend. We cannot know Him in and of ourselves. He knew that. So He sent a sign. To tell us what He is like. To reconcile us to Himself.

Isaiah 7
14Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

John 14:9
Whoever has seen me has seen the Father.

Colossians 1:20
20andAW)"> through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross
.
We have seen the character of God Himself in Jesus. Jesus. Full of humility and of meekness. A humble King who desired to be reconciled to His creation.

This was plan "A" from the beginning. There was never another option.

Revelation 13:8

...the book of life belonging to the Lamb that was slain from the creation of the world.
He was pleased to dwell with us. He planned for this.

Luke 2:11, 14
Behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all people; for today in the city of David there was been born to you a Savior who is Christ [Messiah] the Lord [Yahweh].

... "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth PEACE among men with whom He is pleased..."
He was pleased to dwell with men. To bring peace between God and man. The ultimate breach between Deity and Humanity- mended for all time. Something only God could do but only man should do.

Emmanuel. God with us.

He became like us. Human. He experienced a full human life. He was a child. He had a family. He lived my life already. He knows me completely in this.

Psalm 139
1O LORD, you have searched me and known me!
2
You know when I sit down and when I rise up;
you discern my thoughts from afar.
3You search out my path and my lying down
and are acquainted with all my ways.
4Even before a word is on my tongue,
behold, O LORD, you know it altogether.
5You hem me in, behind and before,
and lay your hand upon me.
6G)"> Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;
it is high; I cannot attain it.

Ah but, He is not just Omniscient, knowing all things in some mystical sort of way, but He has EXPERIENTIAL KNOWLEDGE of the frailty of this life.

Hebrews 4:14-15
14Since then we have a great high priestR)"> who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.

Ah, Jesus. You have known me completely. You truly share this life with me. You are the answer to every question, the solution to all things.

Son of Man. You have bound Yourself to man. You have named Yourself by our name.

(Just read John and see how many times Jesus refers to Himself this way. Incredible!)

What a wonder. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me.

Ahh friends, I encourage you to feast on this over the holidays. Think about it, sing it, pray it. Dive into it. Ponder it. Treasure it.

Luke 2
9But Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart.
It is the object of fascination forever. And it will cause Your heart to burn.

MerryMerry Christmas. May the Spirit of Wisdom and Revelation and Understanding come bring a new increase of the knowledge of God to Your heart. :)
